Step behind the neon lights and into the world of professional exotic dancing in Stripper (1985), a revealing documentary that captures the glamour, competition, and personal stories of women working in the adult entertainment industry during the 1980s.
Directed by Jerome Gary, Stripper follows five performers—Janette, Mouse, G.O., Sara, and Danyel—as they navigate their careers, ambitions, and personal lives. From the strip clubs of Las Vegas and Los Angeles to the First Annual Strippers' Convention, the film offers an unusually candid look at an industry rarely explored with such documentary intimacy.
Featuring backstage footage, interviews, and performances, the documentary explores the contrast between the glamorous stage personas and everyday realities of its subjects. The film also follows the competition for a $25,000 grand prize, offering a fascinating snapshot of 1980s nightlife, entertainment culture, and changing attitudes toward sexuality.
This vintage Key Video VHS release features the original 1980s cover artwork and Hi-Fi Stereo presentation. The original cardboard sleeve has been cut to fit a plastic video store rental case, preserving a distinctive piece of VHS rental history.
An intriguing addition for collectors of vintage documentaries, 1980s pop culture, exploitation-adjacent cinema, adult entertainment history, and nostalgic video store releases. Stripper offers an authentic glimpse into a colorful and controversial corner of American nightlife.
